This page will answer any additional questions about how many regular Advil® tablets, caplets, or gel caplets you should take to relieve pain.
For adults and children over 12 years old, take one 200mg pill as soon as you feel the pain and see if you experience relief. In most cases one 200mg tablet, caplet or Liqui-Gels® is enough to reduce pain.
When a part of your body is hurt or aching, there is an increase in the production of chemicals called “prostaglandins” which trigger pain signals. Advil® temporarily blocks your body's production of prostaglandins, reducing pain signals at the site of your injury.
If your pain or fever doesn’t respond to one pill, two tablets, caplets or Liqui-Gels® may be used. You should use the lowest effective dosage to treat your pain. You may repeat taking 1-2 tablets or caplets every 4-6 hours as needed but DO NOT take more than 6 tablets or caplets (1200mg in total) in a 24-hour period, unless directed by a doctor and do not use for more than 10 days.
If you have more questions about how much Advil® to take for your specific pain needs, talk to your doctor. As with any medication, your doctor will be able to provide you with more specific recommendations on the safest dosage to take based on your individual needs and history.
